Metaphor is also a comparison. We do not use “as” or “like”.
Example:

(The Sea )
Here, the sea is compared to a hungry dog
2. A violet by a mossy stone.
( She dwelt among the untrodden ways )
Here, Lucy is compared to a violet.
3. fountain of endless chatter.
(Leave taking)
Here, the grandson is compared to a fountain.
