A brief note on the poet.
James Reeves (1909-1978) was the pseudonym (pen name) of John Morris Reeves. He was a British writer. He was known for his poetry and contributions to children’s literature and the literature of collected traditional songs. But he has published poetry books, stories and anthologies for both adults and children. His first book of poems for children is "The Wandering Moon". It was published in 1950.
He was a teacher, but retired in 1952 due to his failing eyesight. But he continued to write. He was also known as a literary critic and broadcaster.
The poem "The Sea" is a fanciful poem in which the poet metaphorically compares the different stages of the sea to a dog.
